Where you draw the line for hate speech?

There is the question on whether such laws are required. I personally would say yes to the most extreme rhetoric which legitimately makes people feel threatened for their own safety, but appreciate that's pretty vague and open to interpretation. Plus free speech, slippery slope etc.

At least it should cover all the clear "call to action" speeches against any group or disinformational speeches that create anger but beyond that it's all very vague.

Well... I don't think it needs to extend far enough to cover gingers, as Slacks mentioned.

I mean... C'mon..!

Gingers deserve everything they get... And more, probably.

First off - let's set the record straight.

Per capita, there are 4X more attacks against British Jews than British Muslims.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... itism.html

Jews are literally getting targeted and murdered at their kids schools and synagogues in Western Europe. I could be wrong, but I don't believe there has been a recent single case of a guy going to a Muslim school or mosque and murdering people due to their religion in the UK.

Also - criminalizing "Islamophobia" and "Holocaust Denial" are two different things. It is sad that UK and European elites in government feel the need to have to criminalize either. But apparently that's where you are.

If the PC prigs like Miliband get their way, I suppose the shit I've written on this forum criticizing radical Islam could be considered a "hate crime".

We need more speech - not less.

For what it's worth I think hate crime should be a generic law that's applied to all hate-related situations. If Jews or Muslamics or gingers are coming under particular hate-related attacks then the police focus resources on those areas. I don't think there would be a need to create hate laws for specific groups, or at least there shouldn't be if the original hate law is constructed well enough. I also think it's a bit dangerous when the government decide who should be more protected than others.

I'm not sure who is agreeing or disagreeing with this position.

why the fuck do you need "hate crime". crime is crime. if someone is fucking assaulted, it's assault. if someone is robbed, it's robbery. if someone is abused via speech, then use libel.

there is absolutely no reason to have laws about "hate crimes". it's an invention of the new left to help suppress opposition to their rubbish, nothing more

That is entirely my opinion on the topic.

You murder someone... You are a murderer who has just murdered. Don't need to flower it up with any kind of ideological persuasion.

If you are abusing, harassing and generally intimidating someone else, then there are all manner of laws already in existence to cover that.

"Hate Crime" legislation is a purely vote-grabbing exercise. Nothing more.

A surprisingly salient point. When you think about it, Hoff's right. It is a civil rights suppression tactic used by the Left.

At least the suppression tactics used by the Right (lots and lots of guns) are more honest.

Ahh yes, I yearn for the good 'ol days when mine owners would hire strike breakers armed with full auto Browning Automatic Rifles.

How else are you supposed to defeat snipers on the battlefield? Bring a tank? Not always viable. Suppressive fire can be a very viable tactic in keeping your enemies from killing you.
